A busy day

Today started out with our team thinking that they were going to do the slalom portion of the combined first, so everyone had their face guards attached and slalom gear ready. As it turned out, they decided to do the GS race first and run the slalom in the afternoon. So a lot of quick work on the helmets and off they went.
There was a lot of great entertainment on the pitch today as we saw some good spills, and no one got hurt. The slalom course really spread out the field in the combined race, with a few missed gates.
There were finally some results announced, and our skiers showed well. Ben and Bianca made the podium with a bronze each, and Jenna went away with a smile and 3 golds. I think North Bay showed that they are a force to be noticed.
Also Mac Senior raced with the club this week and he received three golds in the K2 races.
There are 2 runs of GS tomorrow so there will be more results to post as things wind down. I did manage to get everyone in one spot for just long enough to get a group picture. I even caught the 3 amigos together today. I hope you enjoy the pictures, and as usual Ben made it to the best ski picture catagory.
more to come..

first real race day

Today was a great day for racing . The sun was out and the temperature was about -6. There were at least 3 of us from North Bay at any one time doing course crew. Some how Sue always got the best spots. She must know somebody here. I was working with the timers here doing interval times for both Super G races this morning. I created some files for them to use with their data to produce a breakdown of the segments of the course. Hopefully we can see the results tomorrow. It was late when we finished this afternoon so the Slalom portion of the Combined will be done tomorrow morning befoore the GS race. So the kids are getting a good mix of race types.
During this afternoon's race Sherice had a spill but got up and made it down on her own, although she DNFed. Mac and Trevor were started one after the other and both had to bail out of the run ( they were on course at the same time) when they were Yellow flagged. ( yellow means stop )They do that when someone ahead falls. With intervals of 20 seconds at the start it gets busy on the course. They both did reruns and got through ok. I only got a few pictures of the team on the course today , but have a couple that are worth looking at.The first is Graham heading out out of the C turn, and the second is Trevor in the C turn. ( ok so I have a bias )
I'm trying to get a team picture but do you think i can.
Hopefully tomorrow the official results of today will be out and I can get info on placings. As soon as I get the results they will show up here.
Bye from searchmont

More Training runs

Today was a busy day for the Kids . They did 4 runs of Super G training. They all are tired and will be getting to bed earlier tonight. Tomorrow they have to be on the hill at 8:15 to do course inspection. There was one lower body injury today but not serious, just a bruised leg. Everyone will be good to go tomorrow.
The highlight of the evening was having John duck taped to a chair and then put outside in front of his mother's door. The door was knocked and his mom answer the door to see who it was. Just another good use of dust tape. We did some interval timing on the kids to see where they lost time and gained time. The times were interesting and the kids could see where they had to improve. thanks to Rob for doing the start timer. Tomorrow we will try interval times for the whole race and have it as part of the race timing.
Today's picture is Bianca just before bursting out of the start gate. Notice that she has no fear. That will come with age.

Tomorrow I hope to have some results as there will be two Super G races and a Slalom. Finally an actual race.

See you tomorrow.

Wed./feb.20 End of day 1

Well the kids survived the bitter cold and got some great training runs in on the Super G course. The general comment was that it wasn't as bad as they thought. A bunch of future downhillers for sure. Trevor had someone hit his knee with a ski in the equivelant of a ten car pileup while training, Matt got whip lash on the last run, and John is still feeling his sholder out. Or as a hockey coach would say " one lower body injury and two upper body injuries".
The best picture of the day didn't even occur on the hill. The boys have taken up nude ski tuning. The best ski picture is of Ben coming off the jump near the bottom of the training course.
Runour has it that the team is heading to the hot tube, but no sign of them heading out in the cold.
The first timed training runs are tomorrow and the actual Super G race on Friday.
So ends day one. As usual stay tuned.

on the hill at searchmont

The drive on Tuesday to get to Searchmont was good, but long. At least Marisa had supper for us when we got there.
This morning the kids met up with their speed coach, Brian Meale. Yes the same as the race name. The temperature was a balmy -28 first thing this morning, but with a promise of getting warmer.
I hope to get some pictures taken today and posted. I have to drive into Searchmont proper to get an internet connection, so posts may be sporatic.
Stay tuned for more.

`now that that's over with

I managed to get through the NOSSA races on Friday without a hitch, at least from a timing point of view. I don't really know what else goes on during a race other that timing, but if appearance is anything, it went smooth all around.
The Sunday Nancy Green race went well, and we managed to get it done before the rain came Sunday Afternoon. Thanks to the Sudbury group for coming over and making it a duel city event. Hopefully we can do more of that in the future.
I'm just getting things packed up for the trek to Sault Ste. Marie tomorrow and 5 days of the Meale cup series. Should be a good time. Hopefully I'll have some pictures as the week progresses.
And by the way, Bailey did a 21 second run the third time down the course. Guess we'll have to set up a speed run course for the kids.

feb. 10/ I didn't have to be at the hill

For the first time in a while I didn't have to be at the hill running a race. So what did I do. Go cross country skiing. Now my body is paying.
Tomorrow I start setting up for the NOSSA race on Friday, and the NG race on Sunday. Just another week during race season.
